I live in beautiful Edinburgh with my amazing husband and two gentle boys. I’m a recovering overthinker. I feel things deeply and I’m incredibly moved by people, their stories and journeys.
I enjoy distilling every moment of life with my favourite people into something I can enjoy, cherish and remember. My pride and joy is my professional photo printer, which is more or less my third baby. I came to a realisation early on that I had so many wonderful memories, but without printing them, they became lost in a sea of digital files. I taught myself how to print and I still cry when I see my own images emerge, like magic (it’s silly, I know!)
I was born in South Africa and my favourite childhood memories are of the Kruger National Park, of looking up at the sky and seeing the band of stars that make up the milky way. I loved the crunch of the dry grass and the low hum of the bushveld alongside the Olifants River in the morning. Those were some of the best days of my life and I hope to recreate with my sons one day.
What a lot of people don’t know about me is that I spent years working as a lawyer in the City of London, Hong Kong and Edinburgh. When my first baby was born, I wasn’t able to spend much time at home, full maternity leave wasn’t really possible for me then. I could look out the window and across the buildings to the flat where my husband was raising our new baby.
I couldn’t spend much time at home, but I was determined to capture all the moments of babyhood when I WAS there. I had a phone, but the images were often really low resolution or blurry and the huge quantity made it hard to manage. I bought a 50mm lens from our local camera shop, and it changed everything for me. I began to capture the details of all of our moments together. My love of photography grew and I found new meaning in images, in their power to capture milestones, in their power, when put together, to capture OUR story. Over time I worked with other families, I won awards for my work and became published in magazines. Photography became a way I could help other families like mine, to capture and display their own memories.
